Improvements to the Electronic Referrals Process for Optometry

The latest update to electronic referrals from Cegedim includes some key improvements to simplify the process for optometry. Having worked with Greater Manchester Confederation of Local Optical Committees (GM LOCS) to collate feedback from customers, this new release contains a simplified user interface (UI) and the referral process has been streamlined to create a faster and more efficient way of processing referrals from primary to secondary care in the ophthalmology market.

Electronic Optometry Referrals

Cegedim’s web-based solution, Healthi Services, brings together services across General Practice, Pharmacy, Community Care and Optometry to integrate and streamline clinical data flow. In partnership with the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership (GMH & SCP) and GM LOCS, Healthi Services is used by over 300 optical practices to streamline the processing of referrals. Since its launch, there have been in excess of 10,000 referrals through the system.

The solution captures patient details including demographics, patient history and any clinical examinations or investigations. This allows all of the data relevant to the referral to be shared with any clinical teams electronically, to which the patient has been referred, from a single, centrally held record.

Improvements to Date

Within this latest version of the referral platform; there are now fewer mandatory fields, patient history has been simplified and the UI is less cluttered, ensuring that optical practitioners can process referrals more efficiently. The postcode search is also smarter and NHS number lookup has been enforced, which should reduce errors in the submission of patient details.

Gianpiero Celino, Strategic Business Development Director, said ‘This is another example of Cegedim’s continuous improvement journey, we began by listening to our customers, and then acting on their feedback. We will continue to listen, act and improve all our solutions so that we can improve the patient journey and work together to lead the way in integrated healthcare.’
